Dry eye care

Dry eye is among the most common complaints in eye clinics. Its usual symptoms are burning, redness or a feeling of something in the eye — and sometimes, unexpectedly, increased watering. It has several causes, ranging from reduced tear production to tears evaporating too quickly to problems with the eyelid glands, and each cause calls for a different plan. That is why managing it starts with an examination that identifies the cause rather than simply easing the symptom.

How it works

  1. 1 Examination of the ocular surface and eyelids to identify the type and cause
  2. 2 Review of daily habits, medications and contributing factors
  3. 3 A cause-based treatment plan, which may include drops and eyelid care
  4. 4 Follow-up to assess response and adjust the plan when needed

Recovery

Dry eye is a condition managed over time rather than resolved in a single visit, and improvement in symptoms requires keeping to the plan for a period your doctor sets. Adjusting daily habits is a core part of the outcome. Your doctor will explain what to expect and when to return to the clinic.
