Femto-LASIK

Femto-LASIK is one of the most widely performed vision-correction procedures today. Its first step uses a femtosecond laser instead of a mechanical blade to create the corneal surface layer, which allows finer control over how thick and even that layer is. The excimer laser then reshapes the corneal tissue according to the measurements recorded for your eye.

How it works

  1. 1 A full eye examination with corneal thickness and mapping to confirm suitability
  2. 2 Anaesthetic drops only — no general anaesthetic needed
  3. 3 The corneal surface layer is created with a femtosecond laser
  4. 4 The cornea is reshaped with the excimer laser and the layer repositioned

Recovery

The procedure itself takes only minutes per eye and most patients go home the same day. Drops are prescribed for a set period and follow-up appointments are scheduled. How quickly vision settles varies from person to person, and your doctor will explain what to expect in your case during the consultation.
